Binnette Lipper was an American composer and pianist who was born on May 6, 1939, in New York City. She grew up in a musical family, with her mother being a pianist and her father a composer. Lipper began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. She attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City and later studied at the Juilliard School of Music. Lipper's early compositions were influenced by the serialism movement, which was popular in the mid-20th century. She was also inspired by the works of composers such as Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern. Lipper's music was characterized by its complex rhythms and harmonies, as well as its use of unconventional instruments and techniques. One of Lipper's most notable works is her Piano Concerto, which was composed in 1965. The concerto was premiered by the New York Philharmonic, with Lipper herself as the soloist. The piece was well-received by critics and helped establish Lipper as a prominent composer in the classical music world. In addition to her work as a composer, Lipper was also an accomplished pianist.
