Stephanie Vial is a renowned cellist and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born in 1965 in the United States, Vial began playing the cello at the age of nine. She showed a natural talent for the instrument and quickly became passionate about pursuing a career in music. Vial received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she studied with renowned cellist Paul Katz. She then went on to earn her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with cellist Harvey Shapiro. Throughout her career, Vial has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and ensembles. She has been a member of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. She has also performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition to her work as a performer, Vial is also a dedicated music educator. She has taught at several institutions, including the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Michigan. She is currently a professor of cello at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. One of the highlights of Vial's career was her performance of the complete Bach cello suites at the 92nd Street Y in New York City in 2000. The performance was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and cemented Vial's reputation as one of the foremost interpreters of Bach's music.
