Lisa Kaplan is a renowned classical pianist who has made a name for herself in the world of music. Born in New York City in 1966, Kaplan grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a composer, so it was only natural that Kaplan would develop a love for music at a young age. Kaplan began playing the piano when she was just four years old, and by the time she was a teenager, she was already performing in public. She attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with the legendary pianist and teacher, Adele Marcus. Kaplan also studied with other notable pianists, including Peter Serkin and Gilbert Kalish. After graduating from Juilliard, Kaplan began her career as a professional pianist. She quickly gained a reputation for her technical skill and her ability to interpret complex musical works. She has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. One of Kaplan's most notable performances was her debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1993. She performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, and her performance was widely praised by critics. The New York Times called her "a pianist of uncommon sensitivity and intelligence," and the New Yorker described her as "a musician of great depth and insight." Kaplan has also been recognized for her work as a chamber musician. She is a founding member of the eighth blackbird ensemble, a group that has won four Grammy Awards for their innovative performances of contemporary classical music. Kaplan has also collaborated with other notable musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to her performances, Kaplan is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a professor of piano at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. Kaplan has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1991, she was a winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, which helped launch her career as a soloist. She has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award, and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Despite her many accomplishments, Kaplan remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, and she is always looking for new ways to explore and interpret classical music. Her passion for music is evident in every performance, and she is truly one of the great pianists of our time.
