The Bergen Chamber Ensemble is a classical music ensemble based in Bergen, Norway. The ensemble was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to bring their music to audiences in Bergen and beyond. The ensemble's main members include violinists Ingrid Andsnes and Atle Sponberg, violist Lars Anders Tomter, cellist Ole Eirik Ree, and pianist Christian Ihle Hadland. All of these musicians are highly respected in the classical music world and have performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. Since its founding, the Bergen Chamber Ensemble has become known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. The ensemble has performed at major venues and festivals throughout Norway and Europe, including the Bergen International Festival, the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. One of the highlights of the Bergen Chamber Ensemble's career was its performance at the 2011 Bergen International Festival, where the ensemble performed a program of works by Mozart, Brahms, and Schumann. The performance was widely praised by critics and audiences alike, and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading chamber music groups in Norway. In addition to its live performances, the Bergen Chamber Ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. These recordings include works by Mozart, Schubert, and Brahms, as well as lesser-known composers such as Johan Halvorsen and Johan Svendsen. The Bergen Chamber Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy) for its recording of works by Halvorsen and Svendsen. The ensemble has also been nominated for several other Spellemannprisen awards, as well as the Gramophone Award and the International Classical Music Award. Despite its success, the Bergen Chamber Ensemble remains committed to its mission of bringing chamber music to audiences in Bergen and beyond. The ensemble continues to perform regularly at major venues and festivals throughout Norway and Europe, and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music groups in the world today.
