Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he received his musical education in Antwerp. Cornet was a prolific composer, and his works include both vocal and instrumental music. Cornet was also a skilled performer, and he held several positions as an organist throughout his career. He served as the organist at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp from 1602 to 1607, and later held positions at the churches of St. James and St. Paul in that city. He also worked as an organist in Brussels and Ghent. One of Cornet's most famous works is his "Fantasia in D," which is a virtuosic piece for organ. It is notable for its use of chromaticism and its complex counterpoint.
