The quartet is named after its founding members, brothers Austin and Anthony Biava, who play the cello and violin respectively, along with violinist Brendan Shea and violist Eric Nowlin. The quartet's members all have impressive backgrounds in classical music, having studied at some of the most prestigious music schools in the world, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory. The Biava Quartet quickly gained recognition for their exceptional musicianship and unique sound, which is characterized by their seamless blend of individual voices and their ability to create a unified sound that is both powerful and nuanced.
