Jonathan Sacdalan is a Filipino-American classical pianist who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on December 22, 1995, in San Diego, California, Jonathan showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He was raised in a family of musicians, with his mother being a singer and his father a guitarist. Jonathan's talent for the piano was evident from an early age, and he began taking lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Dr. Mary Barranger. Under her guidance, Jonathan quickly developed his skills and began performing in public at the age of seven. He also participated in various competitions and won several awards, including the first prize in the San Diego Symphony Young Artists Competition in 2006. In 2008, Jonathan was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he continued his studies with Dr. Barranger. During his time at Juilliard, Jonathan had the opportunity to work with some of the world's most renowned pianists, including Emanuel Ax, Yoheved Kaplinsky, and Robert McDonald. He also participated in masterclasses with Lang Lang and Murray Perahia. Jonathan's talent and hard work paid off when he won the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition in 2011, which gave him the opportunity to perform with the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall. He also won the San Diego Symphony Young Artists Competition for a second time in 2012. After graduating from Juilliard Pre-College in 2013, Jonathan continued his studies at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Professor Angela Cheng. During his time at Oberlin, Jonathan won the Conservatory Concerto Competition and performed with the Oberlin Orchestra. He also won the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists in 2015. Jonathan's talent and hard work have led to numerous performances around the world. He has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. He has also performed with orchestras such as the San Diego Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. In addition to his performances, Jonathan is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught piano at the Juilliard School's Music Advancement Program and the Oberlin Community Music School. He is also a faculty member at the International Institute for Young Musicians in Kansas. Jonathan's talent and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous awards and accolades. In addition to the awards mentioned above, he has also won the Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition, the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, and the New York International Piano Competition. He was also a finalist in the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Jonathan's passion for music and his dedication to his craft have made him a rising star in the world of classical music. He continues to inspire audiences around the world with his performances and his commitment to teaching the next generation of musicians.
