Philipp Dulichius was a German composer and musician who lived during the 17th century. He was born in 1562 in Brück, a small town in the state of Brandenburg. His father, Johannes Dulichius, was a Lutheran pastor and musician who taught his son the basics of music theory and composition. At the age of 14, Philipp Dulichius was sent to study at the University of Frankfurt an der Oder, where he received a thorough education in music and theology. He then went on to study at the University of Wittenberg, where he became a student of the famous composer and music theorist, Sethus Calvisius. After completing his studies, Dulichius began his career as a musician and composer. He worked as a cantor and organist in various churches throughout Germany, including in Berlin, Frankfurt an der Oder, and Stettin. He also served as the court musician for the Duke of Pomerania. Dulichius was a prolific composer, and his works include a wide variety of vocal and instrumental music. He wrote numerous motets, chorales, and hymns, as well as instrumental pieces for keyboard, lute, and other instruments. One of Dulichius's most famous works is his collection of 50 chorale preludes, which he published in 1608. These pieces are based on Lutheran hymns and are written for organ or keyboard. They are notable for their intricate counterpoint and rich harmonies, and they have been praised for their beauty and depth of emotion. Another notable work by Dulichius is his collection of 12 motets, which he published in 1615. These pieces are written for four voices and are based on biblical texts. In 1620, Dulichius was accused of heresy by the Lutheran Church and was forced to flee from his home in Stettin.
