ArgentinaBirth:1962 in Beunos Aires, ArgentinaMarcelo Coronel is a renowned classical music composer from Argentina. He was born on August 22, 1962, in the city of Buenos Aires. From a young age, Coronel showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. He began studying the guitar at the age of 10 and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Coronel's early musical education was heavily influenced by the folk music of Argentina. He was particularly drawn to the music of Atahualpa Yupanqui, a legendary Argentine folk musician and composer. Coronel studied Yupanqui's music extensively and incorporated many of his techniques and styles into his own compositions. In 1980, Coronel enrolled in the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires, where he studied classical guitar under the tutelage of Eduardo Isaac. He also studied composition with Carlos Guastavino, one of Argentina's most celebrated composers. After completing his studies, Coronel began performing as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Argentina and Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso guitarist and a talented composer. In 1990, he was awarded the prestigious Konex Award for his contributions to Argentine music. Coronel's compositions are heavily influenced by the music of his native Argentina. He often incorporates elements of Argentine folk music, tango, and classical music into his works. His music is known for its intricate harmonies, complex rhythms, and virtuosic guitar playing. One of Coronel's most famous works is his Suite Argentina, which was composed in 1992. The suite consists of four movements, each of which is based on a different Argentine folk dance. The first movement, Chacarera, is a lively dance in 6/8 time. The second movement, Zamba, is a slower, more lyrical dance in 3/4 time. The third movement, Gato, is a fast-paced dance in 6/8 time. The final movement, Malambo, is a virtuosic dance in 6/8 time that showcases Coronel's incredible guitar playing. Another notable work by Coronel is his Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, which was composed in 2001. The concerto is a three-movement work that features the guitar as the solo instrument. The first movement, Allegro, is a fast-paced, energetic movement that showcases the guitar's virtuosity. The second movement, Adagio, is a slow, lyrical movement that highlights the guitar's expressive capabilities. The final movement, Allegro con brio, is a lively, rhythmic movement that brings the concerto to a thrilling conclusion. In addition to his compositions for guitar, Coronel has also written works for chamber ensembles and orchestra. His chamber music includes works for guitar and string quartet, guitar and flute, and guitar and harp. His orchestral works include a symphony and several tone poems. Coronel's music has been performed by some of the world's leading musicians and ensembles, including the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the Assad Brothers, and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra. His music has been featured on numerous recordings and has been broadcast on radio and television throughout the world. In addition to his work as a composer, Coronel is also a respected music educator. He has taught guitar and composition at several universities and conservatories in Argentina and Europe. He has also given masterclasses and workshops throughout the world.More....
