By the time he was a teenager, Bushnell had already won several local music competitions and was gaining recognition as a talented pianist. After completing high school, Bushnell attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under some of the most renowned classical music teachers in the world. Bushnell's career took off in the early 1990s when he started performing with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. Bushnell's performances were characterized by his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music and connect with his audience on a profound level. One of Bushnell's most memorable performances was at the 1994 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow.
