The Arthur Fiedler Chorus is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1947 by Arthur Fiedler, a renowned conductor and musician. Fiedler was born in Boston in 1894 and began his musical career as a violinist. He later became the conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, a position he held for over 50 years. Fiedler was known for his innovative approach to classical music, which included incorporating popular music into his performances. He believed that classical music should be accessible to everyone, and he worked to make it more appealing to a wider audience. In 1947, Fiedler decided to form a chorus to accompany the Boston Pops Orchestra. He wanted to create a group of singers who could perform a wide range of music, from classical to popular. He recruited a group of talented singers from the Boston area and began rehearsing with them. The Arthur Fiedler Chorus quickly became known for its high-quality performances and its ability to sing a wide range of music. The group performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra on a regular basis, and they also gave their own concerts. One of the highlights of the Arthur Fiedler Chorus's career was their performance at the 1953 inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The group sang the national anthem and several other patriotic songs, and their performance was widely praised. The Arthur Fiedler Chorus also performed at several other major events, including the opening of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1971 and the bicentennial celebration of the United States in 1976. In addition to their live performances, the Arthur Fiedler Chorus also recorded several albums. Their first album, "Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Play the Beatles," was released in 1971 and was a commercial success. The group also recorded albums of Christmas music and patriotic songs. The Arthur Fiedler Chorus received several awards and honors throughout their career. In 1969, they won a Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance for their album "The Great Songs of Christmas." They were also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002. The Arthur Fiedler Chorus continued to perform with the Boston Pops Orchestra until Fiedler's death in 1979. After his death, the group continued to perform under the direction of other conductors, but they eventually disbanded in the 1990s. Today, the Arthur Fiedler Chorus is remembered as one of the most innovative and talented classical music ensembles of the 20th century. Their ability to perform a wide range of music and their commitment to making classical music accessible to everyone continue to inspire musicians and audiences around the world.
