Etienne Billot was born on May 12, 1985, in Paris, France. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Etienne showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Etienne's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of six. He quickly excelled in his studies and began performing in public at the age of eight. By the time he was a teenager, Etienne had already won several prestigious competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Geneva and the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw. In 2003, Etienne was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. During his time at Juilliard, Etienne continued to win awards and accolades, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Avery Fisher Career Grant. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Etienne began a successful career as a concert pianist, performing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also began recording albums, with his debut album, "Etienne Billot Plays Chopin," receiving critical acclaim. In 2012, Etienne was invited to perform at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The performance was a highlight of Etienne's career, and he later described it as "an incredible honor." Throughout his career, Etienne has remained committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. He has given numerous masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has also collaborated with contemporary composers to create new works for the piano. In 2019, Etienne was awarded the prestigious Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. The award was a fitting tribute to a musician who has dedicated his life to sharing his love of classical music with audiences around the world. Today, Etienne continues to perform and record, and remains one of the most respected and admired pianists of his generation. His passion for music and his commitment to excellence have made him a true ambassador for classical music, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of musicians for years to come.
