Johannes received his early music education at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned cellist, Herre-Jan Stegenga. He later went on to study at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he was mentored by Dmitri Ferschtman. Johannes' talent as a cellist was evident from a young age, and he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills. He won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Princess Christina Competition in 2002 and the National Cello Competition in 2004. In 2006, Johannes was awarded a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the guidance of Joel Krosnick. During his time at Juilliard, Johannes had the opportunity to perform in several prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Johannes returned to the Netherlands, where he began his professional career as a cellist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented cellists of his generation and was invited to perform with several renowned orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Johannes' performances were always highly anticipated, and he never failed to impress audiences with his technical skill and emotional depth. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Bach and Beethoven, and his performances of these composers' works were often described as transcendent. In addition to his work as a soloist, Johannes was also a dedicated chamber musician. He was a founding member of the Hertog Quartet, which quickly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting young string quartets in Europe. Johannes' career was tragically cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015.
