Harry Dacre was a British composer and songwriter who was born on August 27, 1860, in London, England. He was the son of a music publisher and grew up in a musical family. His father, Frank Dacre, was a well-known composer and music publisher, and his mother, Mary Ann Dacre, was a singer and pianist. Dacre began his musical career as a performer, playing the piano and singing in music halls and theaters throughout England. He also worked as a music teacher and composer, writing songs and instrumental pieces for various performers and ensembles. In 1892, Dacre wrote what would become his most famous song, "Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)." The song was inspired by the new craze of bicycling that was sweeping England at the time, and it quickly became a hit. The song's catchy melody and playful lyrics made it a favorite of audiences and performers alike, and it has since become a classic of the popular music repertoire. Over the course of his career, Dacre wrote many other popular songs, including "I'll Be Your Sweetheart," "My Old Dutch," and "The Boy I Love is Up in the Gallery."
