Curtis Streetman is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of opera and concert performances. Born on December 22, 1957, in Houston, Texas, Streetman grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a singer, which exposed him to music at an early age. Streetman's love for music began when he was a child, and he started singing in his church choir. He later joined the Houston Boys Choir, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for classical music. Streetman attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, where he studied voice and music theory. After high school, Streetman attended the University of Houston, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in vocal performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Streetman's career in opera began in 1985 when he made his debut with the New York City Opera in the role of Jake in Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess." He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, and he went on to perform in numerous productions with the New York City Opera, including "La Bohème," "Carmen," and "The Barber of Seville." In 1990, Streetman made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, where he performed in the role of the High Priest in "Samson et Dalila." He continued to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in various productions, including "Aida," "Don Giovanni," and "The Magic Flute." Streetman's talent and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1991, he was awarded the Richard Tucker Award, which is given annually to an American opera singer who shows great promise in the field. He was also a recipient of the Marian Anderson Award in 1993, which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to the arts.
