White Star Chamber Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 in New York City. The group was formed by a group of young musicians who were passionate about chamber music and wanted to create a platform to showcase their talents. The ensemble's name was inspired by the White Star Line, a British shipping company that was known for its luxurious ocean liners, including the Titanic. The founding members of the White Star Chamber Orchestra were violinists Laura Jean Goldberg and Eriko Sato, violist Vincent Lionti, cellist Sarah Hewitt-Roth, and pianist Steven Beck. All of the members were accomplished musicians who had performed with major orchestras and ensembles around the world. They came together with the goal of creating a chamber orchestra that would be known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. Over the years, the White Star Chamber Orchestra has grown to include a rotating roster of musicians, with the core members remaining the same. The ensemble has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, earning critical acclaim for their performances. One of the highlights of the White Star Chamber Orchestra's career was their performance at the 2008 Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center. The ensemble performed Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor, which was met with a standing ovation from the audience. The New York Times praised the group's "crisp, energetic playing" and noted that they "brought a fresh perspective to this well-known work." In 2010, the White Star Chamber Orchestra was awarded the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. The award recognized the ensemble's commitment to presenting innovative and diverse programming, which included works by both well-known composers and lesser-known contemporary composers. Another notable performance by the White Star Chamber Orchestra was their collaboration with the Mark Morris Dance Group in 2012. The ensemble provided live music for Morris's choreography of Handel's "L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The New York Times praised the collaboration, noting that the "White Star Chamber Orchestra played with a buoyant, crisp sound that matched the dancers' energy and precision." In addition to their performances, the White Star Chamber Orchestra is also committed to music education and outreach. They have worked with schools and community organizations to provide music education programs and workshops, and have also performed in hospitals and nursing homes to bring music to those who may not have access to live performances. Overall, the White Star Chamber Orchestra has established itself as one of the premier chamber ensembles in the world. With their innovative programming, high-quality performances, and commitment to music education and outreach, they have earned a reputation as a group that is both talented and socially conscious.More....
