The Schneiderman-Yamaya Duo is a classical music ensemble consisting of two highly skilled musicians, clarinetist Richard Schneiderman and pianist Akira Yamaya. The duo was founded in 1995 and has since become one of the most respected and sought-after ensembles in the classical music world. Richard Schneiderman was born in New York City and began playing the clarinet at the age of 10. He went on to study at the Juilliard School of Music and later earned a Master's degree from Yale University. Schneiderman has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the United States and Europe, and has been praised for his virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations. Akira Yamaya was born in Japan and began playing the piano at the age of 5. He studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and later earned a Master's degree from the Juilliard School of Music. Yamaya has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the world, and has been praised for his sensitive and nuanced playing. The Schneiderman-Yamaya Duo was formed when Schneiderman and Yamaya met while studying at the Juilliard School of Music. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together regularly. Their first major performance as a duo was at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where they received a standing ovation and rave reviews from critics. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians of our time, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman. One of the highlights of the Schneiderman-Yamaya Duo's career was their performance at the 2002 Grammy Awards ceremony, where they were nominated for Best Chamber Music Performance. Although they did not win the award, their performance was widely praised and helped to bring their music to a wider audience. The Schneiderman-Yamaya Duo has also received numerous other awards and honors throughout their career, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Naumburg Chamber Music Award, and the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Program. Despite their many accolades, the Schneiderman-Yamaya Duo remains committed to their craft and to bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world.
