Le Miroir De Musique is a Swiss classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The ensemble was founded in 2005 by the Swiss musician Baptiste Romain, who serves as its artistic director and principal performer. Since its inception, Le Miroir De Musique has gained a reputation for its innovative and historically informed performances, which have earned it critical acclaim and numerous awards. Baptiste Romain was born in Switzerland in 1979 and began his musical training at a young age. He studied the recorder and the viola da gamba at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, a renowned music school in Basel, Switzerland. After completing his studies, Romain began performing with various early music ensembles, including the Huelgas Ensemble and the Capella Reial de Catalunya. In 2005, he founded Le Miroir De Musique with the aim of exploring the rich repertoire of medieval and Renaissance music. The ensemble's name, which means "the mirror of music," reflects its mission to reflect the beauty and complexity of early music through its performances. Le Miroir De Musique is known for its meticulous attention to historical detail, using period instruments and performing music in the style and context in which it was originally intended. The ensemble's performances are characterized by their clarity, precision, and emotional depth, and its members are renowned for their virtuosity and sensitivity. Le Miroir De Musique's core ensemble consists of Baptiste Romain on the viola da gamba and recorder, Marc Lewon on the lute and voice, and Sabine Lutzenberger on the voice. The ensemble also collaborates with a range of other musicians, including instrumentalists and vocalists, depending on the repertoire being performed. The ensemble's members are all highly respected performers in the early music world, and their individual talents and expertise contribute to the ensemble's unique sound and style. Since its founding, Le Miroir De Musique has performed extensively throughout Europe and North America, appearing at major festivals and concert series. The ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including its debut album, "Le Roman de Fauvel," which won the prestigious Diapason d'Or award in 2012. The album features music from the 14th-century French manuscript of the same name, which tells the story of a horse named Fauvel who rises to power through deceit and corruption. The album showcases the ensemble's virtuosity and sensitivity, as well as its ability to bring to life the complex and fascinating world of medieval music. Other highlights of Le Miroir De Musique's career include its performances of the music of Guillaume de Machaut, one of the most important composers of the 14th century. The ensemble's recording of Machaut's "Messe de Nostre Dame" was praised for its clarity and emotional depth, and won the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik award in 2015. The ensemble has also performed the music of other important medieval and Renaissance composers, including Johannes Ockeghem, Josquin des Prez, and Claudio Monteverdi. In addition to its performances and recordings, Le Miroir De Musique is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for students and young musicians, sharing its expertise and passion for early music with the next generation.More....
