Georg von Bertouch was a German composer and musician who lived during the Baroque period. He was born in 1668 in the city of Magdeburg, which was then part of the Holy Roman Empire. His father was a musician and composer, and it was under his guidance that Georg began his musical education. As a child, Georg showed a great aptitude for music, and he quickly became proficient in playing the violin, the harpsichord, and the organ. He also showed a talent for composition, and he began writing his own music at a young age. In 1685, when Georg was 17 years old, he moved to Leipzig to study music at the University of Leipzig. There, he studied under some of the most renowned musicians of the time, including Johann Kuhnau and Johann Schelle. He also became friends with Johann Sebastian Bach, who was then a student at the university. After completing his studies in Leipzig, Georg moved to Dresden, where he became a court musician for the Elector of Saxony. He remained in this position for several years, during which time he composed a number of works for the court, including operas, cantatas, and instrumental music. In 1702, Georg moved to Berlin, where he became a court musician for the Elector of Brandenburg. It was during this time that he composed some of his most famous works, including his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Major, which is still widely performed today. In addition to his work as a composer, Georg was also a respected music teacher.
