Guiomar grew up in a musical family, and his father was a professional musician who played the violin. Guiomar started playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Guiomar's musical education began at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied piano and composition. He later studied conducting with Pierre Monteux and Charles Munch. Guiomar's talent as a conductor was quickly recognized, and he was appointed as the conductor of the Orchestre National de France in 1967. Guiomar's career as a conductor was marked by many highlights. He conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He was also a regular guest conductor at the Royal Opera House in London and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Guiomar was known for his interpretations of the works of French composers, particularly Debussy and Ravel. He was also a champion of contemporary music and conducted many premieres of new works by leading composers of the time.
