Rochester Chamber Players is a classical music ensemble based in Rochester, New York. The group was founded in 2015 by a group of professional musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to bring high-quality performances to the Rochester community. The founding members of Rochester Chamber Players were violinist Juliana Athayde, violist Melissa Matson, cellist Benjamin Krug, and pianist Yi-Wen Chang. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in orchestras and chamber groups, and they were excited to bring their talents together to form a new ensemble. From the beginning, Rochester Chamber Players was committed to presenting a diverse range of classical music, from well-known masterpieces to lesser-known works by contemporary composers. The group's repertoire includes everything from Baroque sonatas to 21st-century compositions, and they are always looking for new and exciting pieces to add to their repertoire. One of the highlights of Rochester Chamber Players' early years was their debut concert in 2015, which featured works by Mozart, Brahms, and Dvořák. The concert was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and it set the stage for many more successful performances to come. Over the years, Rochester Chamber Players has grown and evolved, with new members joining the group and new collaborations and partnerships forming. Today, the ensemble consists of a core group of musicians, including Athayde, Matson, Krug, and Chang, as well as a rotating cast of guest performers. One of the hallmarks of Rochester Chamber Players' performances is their commitment to engaging with their audiences. The group often includes informative program notes and engages in dialogue with the audience before and after performances, helping to demystify classical music and make it more accessible to a wider audience. In addition to their regular concert series, Rochester Chamber Players has also been involved in a number of special projects and collaborations. In 2018, the group collaborated with the Rochester City Ballet to present a performance of Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale," which was hailed as a "triumph" by local critics. Rochester Chamber Players has also been recognized for their outstanding performances and contributions to the Rochester community. In 2019, the group was awarded a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts to support their concert series, and they have been featured in numerous local and national media outlets.
