Garrett Sorenson is a renowned American tenor who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on August 22, 1974, in Seattle, Washington, Sorenson grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a visual artist. From a young age, Sorenson showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Sorenson began his musical training at the age of 10, studying piano and voice. He attended the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. He then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received a Master of Music degree in opera performance. Sorenson's career as a professional opera singer began in 2001 when he made his debut with the Seattle Opera in the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, and he was soon invited to perform with some of the world's most prestigious opera companies. One of Sorenson's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Verdi's "Don Carlo" at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City in 2008. Sorenson has also performed with the San Francisco Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Houston Grand Opera, and the Los Angeles Opera, among others. In 2005, he was named a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, one of the most prestigious competitions for young opera singers in the United States. He has also been a recipient of the Richard Tucker Award, which is given annually to an outstanding American opera singer. In addition to his work as a performer, Sorenson is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has served on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Music and has given masterclasses and workshops at universities and conservatories around the world.
