The Cleveland Brass Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years. The ensemble was founded in 1968 by a group of musicians who were passionate about brass music and wanted to share their love of the genre with others. The founding members of the Cleveland Brass Ensemble were all accomplished musicians who had played in various orchestras and ensembles throughout their careers. They included trumpeters Bernard Adelstein and Michael Sachs, horn player Richard Solis, trombonist Ronald Bishop, and tuba player Ronald Bishop. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. They performed a wide range of music, from classical works by Bach and Mozart to contemporary pieces by composers like John Williams and Leonard Bernstein. One of the highlights of the Cleveland Brass Ensemble's early career was their performance at the 1970 World's Fair in Osaka, Japan. The ensemble was one of only a handful of American musical groups invited to perform at the fair, and their concerts were a huge success. Over the years, the Cleveland Brass Ensemble has continued to perform at major venues and events around the world. They have played at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia, among many others. In addition to their live performances, the Cleveland Brass Ensemble has also recorded several albums. Their first album, released in 1970, featured works by Bach, Gabrieli, and other classical composers. They have since recorded albums of Christmas music, patriotic music, and contemporary works. The ensemble has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1972, they were awarded the Cleveland Arts Prize for their contributions to the city's cultural scene. They have also been named the "Best Brass Ensemble" by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Despite changes in personnel over the years, the Cleveland Brass Ensemble has remained committed to its mission of bringing the beauty and excitement of brass music to audiences around the world. Today, the ensemble is made up of some of the finest brass musicians in the country, including trumpeters Michael Sachs and Jack Sutte, horn player Richard King, trombonist Massimo La Rosa, and tuba player Yasuhito Sugiyama. The Cleveland Brass Ensemble continues to perform regularly, both in Cleveland and around the world. Their concerts are always a treat for music lovers, and their innovative programming and exceptional musicianship ensure that they will remain a beloved fixture of the classical music scene for years to come.
