Violon-Banden is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1995 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group is known for its unique blend of traditional and contemporary music, as well as its innovative approach to performance. The founding members of Violon-Banden were violinists Peter Spissky and Mogens Ellegaard, violist Asbjørn Nørgaard, and cellist Morten Zeuthen. The group was formed with the goal of exploring the possibilities of string quartet music, and quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic and engaging performances. Over the years, Violon-Banden has undergone some changes in membership, but has remained committed to its original mission of pushing the boundaries of classical music. Today, the group consists of violinists Peter Spissky and Christina Åstrand, violist Asbjørn Nørgaard, and cellist Lars Holm Johansen. One of the highlights of Violon-Banden's career was their performance at the 1999 Tivoli Festival in Copenhagen. The group's innovative approach to classical music was on full display, as they performed a program that included works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Bartók, as well as contemporary pieces by Danish composer Poul Ruders. In 2001, Violon-Banden was awarded the prestigious Carl Nielsen Prize, which is given annually to a Danish musician or ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the country's musical culture. The group was recognized for their innovative approach to classical music, as well as their commitment to promoting Danish composers and musicians. In addition to their performances in Denmark, Violon-Banden has also toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States.
