Francisco Hernández Palero was a Spanish composer and pianist who lived from 1907 to 1988. He was born in the town of Alcalá la Real, in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, Spain. His father was a music teacher, and his mother was a singer. From a young age, Palero showed a great interest in music, and he began studying piano and composition with his father. Palero's musical education continued at the Conservatory of Granada, where he studied piano, harmony, and counterpoint. He also studied composition with the renowned Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. Palero's early works show the influence of Falla's music, as well as the folk music of Andalusia. In 1931, Palero moved to Madrid, where he became a professor of piano at the Madrid Conservatory. He also began to establish himself as a composer, and his works were performed by leading Spanish orchestras and chamber ensembles. Palero's music was characterized by its lyricism, its use of Spanish folk melodies and rhythms, and its harmonic richness. One of Palero's most important works is his Piano Concerto, which he composed in 1943. The concerto is in three movements, and it showcases Palero's virtuosic piano writing as well as his skill in orchestration. The concerto was premiered by the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, with Palero as the soloist. Palero also composed a number of chamber works, including a Piano Trio, a String Quartet, and a Sonata for Violin and Piano.
