Artist Info
Rony Barrak is a world-renowned percussionist and classical music artist who has captivated audiences with his unique style and virtuosic performances. Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1972, Barrak grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a singer and oud player, and his mother was a pianist, so it was only natural that Barrak would develop a love for music. Barrak began playing the darbuka, a traditional Middle Eastern drum, at the age of four. He quickly showed a natural talent for percussion and began performing at local events and festivals. By the age of 12, he was already a professional musician, playing with some of the biggest names in Lebanese music. In 1991, Barrak moved to Paris to study classical percussion at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world, winning numerous awards and accolades for his performances. One of Barrak's most notable performances was at the 1998 Montreux Jazz Festival, where he performed a solo on the darbuka that left the audience in awe. His performance was so impressive that he was invited back to the festival the following year to perform with jazz legend Chick Corea. Barrak has also performed with some of the biggest names in classical music, including conductor Daniel Barenboim and pianist Martha Argerich. He has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. In addition to his classical music performances, Barrak has also collaborated with musicians from a variety of genres, including jazz, rock, and world music. He has recorded several albums, including "Darbuka City" and "Rhythms of Lebanon," which showcase his unique blend of traditional Middle Eastern rhythms and classical percussion. Barrak's talent and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2006, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government for his contributions to the arts. He has also been recognized by the Lebanese government for his cultural contributions to the country. Despite his success, Barrak remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, sharing his love of music with audiences and students around the world. His unique style and virtuosic performances have made him one of the most respected and admired percussionists in the world of classical music.More....
