Exultate Choir is a classical music ensemble based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 2002 by artistic director Thomas Rossin, the choir has become known for its exceptional performances of choral music from a wide range of eras and styles. Thomas Rossin, a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Music, founded Exultate Choir with the goal of creating a high-quality choral ensemble that would perform a diverse repertoire of music. Rossin had previously served as the director of music at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where he had developed a reputation for his skill as a choral conductor. The choir's name, "Exultate," is derived from the Latin word for "rejoice." This name reflects the choir's mission to bring joy and inspiration to audiences through its performances of choral music. Exultate Choir is made up of approximately 50 singers, all of whom are auditioned members of the ensemble. The choir's members come from a variety of backgrounds and professions, but all share a passion for choral music and a commitment to excellence in performance. Since its founding, Exultate Choir has performed a wide range of choral music, from Renaissance motets to contemporary works. The choir has collaborated with a number of other musical ensembles, including the Minnesota Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Minnesota Chorale. One of the highlights of Exultate Choir's performance history was its participation in the 2007 World Symposium on Choral Music, which was held in Kyoto, Japan. The choir was one of only a handful of American ensembles invited to perform at the symposium, which brought together choral musicians from around the world. Exultate Choir has also been recognized for its excellence in performance through a number of awards and honors. In 2010, the choir was awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America, a national organization that supports and promotes choral music in the United States. In addition to its regular concert performances, Exultate Choir is also committed to community outreach and education. The choir regularly performs at schools and community centers, and has developed a number of educational programs designed to introduce young people to the joys of choral music.
