The Beijing Central Philharmonic Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Beijing, China. It was founded in 1949, shortly after the establishment of the People's Republic of China, and has since become one of the country's most prominent orchestras. The orchestra was originally known as the Central Philharmonic Society, and was founded by a group of musicians who had previously been members of the National Orchestra of China. The founding members included conductor Li Delun, violinist Lin Yaoji, and cellist Wang Jianzhong, among others. Over the years, the orchestra has undergone several name changes and reorganizations, but has remained a fixture of the Chinese classical music scene. Today, it is known as the Beijing Central Philharmonic Orchestra, and is led by conductor Yang Yang. The orchestra's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from traditional Chinese works to Western classical pieces. It has also commissioned and premiered many new works by Chinese composers. One of the orchestra's most notable performances was its 1973 tour of the United States, which marked the first time a Chinese orchestra had performed in the country. The tour was a major success, and helped to introduce Chinese classical music to a wider audience. In addition to its international tours, the Beijing Central Philharmonic Orchestra has also performed extensively throughout China, and has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. These include the National Arts Fund Award, the National May 1st Labor Medal, and the China Arts Award. The orchestra's current members include many talented musicians, including concertmaster Zhang Ying, principal cellist Wang Jian, and principal clarinetist Li Fangyin. Together, they continue to uphold the orchestra's tradition of excellence and innovation in classical music.More....
