Michael Cerveris is a renowned American actor, singer, and guitarist who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on November 6, 1960, in Bethesda, Maryland, Cerveris grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Michael Cerveris Sr., was a professor of music at the University of Maryland, and his mother, Marsha Laycock, was a dancer and choreographer. Cerveris was exposed to music and the arts from a young age, and he developed a passion for classical music that would shape his career. Cerveris began his musical training at the age of six, studying piano and guitar. He later attended the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., where he continued his musical education. In high school, Cerveris played in a rock band and performed in musical theater productions. He also studied classical guitar with Aaron Shearer, a renowned guitarist and educator. After graduating from high school, Cerveris attended Yale University, where he studied theater and music. He continued to perform in musical theater productions and played in a rock band called Retriever. Cerveris made his Broadway debut in 1985 in the musical "The Who's Tommy," playing the role of Tommy. He went on to star in several other Broadway productions, including "Assassins," "Sweeney Todd," and "Fun Home." Cerveris has won two Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical, for his performances in "Assassins" and "Fun Home."
