James Mismas was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Mismas showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Mismas received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Mismas won numerous awards and accolades, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 2006. After graduating from Juilliard, Mismas embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Mismas is known for his virtuosic performances of the works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. He is particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Russian composers, including Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. In addition to his concert performances, Mismas is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several prestigious music schools, including the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Throughout his career, Mismas has received numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2010 and the Gilmore Artist Award in 2014. He has also been a featured artist on several recordings, including his critically acclaimed recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra. Despite his success, Mismas remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, inspiring a new generation of musicians with his passion and dedication to classical music.
