Born in 1977 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Schumann grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. His parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue his passion for music from a young age. Schumann began playing the piano when he was just five years old, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He also began composing his own music at a young age, and he was soon writing pieces that were well beyond his years in terms of complexity and sophistication. As Schumann grew older, he continued to hone his skills as a pianist and composer. He studied music at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. He also studied composition with some of the most respected composers in the field, including Dominick Argento and Judith Lang Zaimont. After completing his undergraduate studies, Schumann went on to earn a Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, he studied with some of the most influential composers of the 20th century, including William Bolcom and Michael Daugherty. Throughout his career, Schumann has been recognized for his talent and his contributions to the world of classical music. He has won numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Composers, which is awarded annually to just four composers in the state of Minnesota. Schumann's music has been performed by some of the most respected ensembles and soloists in the world of classical music. His works have been featured at major festivals and venues, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Bang on a Can Marathon, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. One of Schumann's most notable works is his Piano Concerto, which was commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra and premiered in 2010. The concerto was praised by critics for its innovative use of orchestration and its virtuosic piano writing. In addition to his work as a composer, Schumann is also an accomplished pianist. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, and he has collaborated with some of the most respected musicians in the field. Schumann is also a dedicated educator, and he has taught at several universities and conservatories throughout the United States. He is currently a professor of music at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he teaches composition and music theory. Throughout his career, Schumann has remained committed to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new avenues of expression. His music is characterized by its boldness, its complexity, and its emotional depth, and it has earned him a reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative composers of his generation.More....
