Transcontinental Piano Duo is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by two pianists, Elena Kuschnerova and Josep Colom. The duo has gained international recognition for their unique and dynamic performances, which showcase their exceptional technical skills and musical sensitivity. Elena Kuschnerova was born in Moscow, Russia, and began playing the piano at the age of five. She studied at the Moscow State Conservatory and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. Kuschnerova has won numerous awards and competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy, and the International Piano Competition in Jaén, Spain. Josep Colom was born in Barcelona, Spain, and began playing the piano at the age of six. He studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. Colom has also won several awards and competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain, and the International Piano Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. The two pianists first met in 2007 at a music festival in Spain and quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. They decided to form a piano duo and began rehearsing together regularly. Their first performance as Transcontinental Piano Duo took place in 2008 at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, and they received rave reviews from the audience and critics alike. Since then, Transcontinental Piano Duo has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. They have also collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Moscow Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the duo's career was their performance at the 2010 International Piano Festival in La Roque d'Anthéron, France. They were invited to perform alongside other world-class pianists such as Martha Argerich and Lang Lang, and their performance received a standing ovation from the audience. Transcontinental Piano Duo has also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including their debut album "Transcontinental" in 2010, which features works by Schubert, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. Their second album, "Spanish Rhapsody," was released in 2013 and features works by Spanish composers such as Granados, Albéniz, and Falla. In addition to their performances and recordings, Transcontinental Piano Duo is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. They have participated in educational programs and outreach initiatives, including masterclasses and workshops for young musicians. The duo has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2011, they were awarded the Echo Klassik Award for their debut album "Transcontinental." They have also been nominated for several other awards, including the Gramophone Award and the International Classical Music Award.
