Role:PerformerHugh Bonneville is a British actor and classical music enthusiast, known for his roles in popular television shows and films such as Downton Abbey, Notting Hill, and Paddington. Born on November 10, 1963, in London, England, Bonneville grew up in a family that valued the arts and music. His father was a surgeon and his mother was a nurse, but they both had a passion for classical music and often took their children to concerts and operas. Bonneville attended Sherborne School, a prestigious boarding school in Dorset, where he developed his love for music and drama. He played the cello in the school orchestra and acted in school productions, including a memorable performance as King Lear. After graduating from Sherborne, Bonneville went on to study theology at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, but he continued to pursue his interest in music and drama. In the early 1990s, Bonneville began his acting career in earnest, appearing in a number of stage productions and television shows. He gained critical acclaim for his performance in the play Racing Demon, which was written by David Hare and directed by Richard Eyre. The play dealt with issues of faith and social justice, and Bonneville's portrayal of a conflicted priest earned him a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. Bonneville's breakthrough role came in 1999, when he played the bumbling bookstore owner in the romantic comedy Notting Hill, opposite Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. The film was a box office hit and made Bonneville a household name. He went on to appear in a number of other films, including Mansfield Park, Iris, and The Monuments Men. Despite his success in film and television, Bonneville never lost his love for classical music. He continued to play the cello and attend concerts and operas whenever he could. In 2011, he was given the opportunity to combine his two passions when he was cast as Robert Crawley, the Earl of Grantham, in the hit television series Downton Abbey. Downton Abbey was a period drama set in the early 20th century, and it followed the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. The show was a critical and commercial success, and it won numerous awards, including several Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama. Bonneville's performance as the dignified and sometimes stubborn Earl of Grantham was widely praised, and he became one of the show's most beloved characters. In addition to his acting work, Bonneville has also been involved in a number of music-related projects. In 2012, he presented a documentary for BBC Radio 3 called The Secret Life of the Cello, in which he explored the history and cultural significance of the cello. He has also narrated several classical music concerts, including a performance of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Bonneville's love for classical music has also led him to support a number of music-related charities and organizations. He is a patron of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, which provides young musicians with opportunities to perform and develop their skills. He has also supported the Royal Academy of Music, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. In recent years, Bonneville has continued to work in film and television, but he has also returned to the stage.More....
