SpainBirth:1510 in Salamanca, SpainDeath:after 1557 in Salamanca, SpainPeriod:RenaissanceGenre:ChamberDiego Pisador was a Spanish composer and musician who lived during the Renaissance period. He was born in Salamanca, Spain in the year 1509. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he received a good education and was exposed to music from a young age. Pisador was a talented musician and composer who was known for his contributions to the Spanish Renaissance music scene. He was particularly skilled in playing the vihuela, a stringed instrument that was popular in Spain during the 16th century. Pisador was also a singer and wrote many songs that were performed by himself and others. One of Pisador's most notable works is his book of vihuela music, "Libro de música de vihuela," which was published in 1552. This book contains a collection of pieces for the vihuela, including fantasias, pavanas, gallardas, and other dance forms. The book is considered to be one of the most important collections of vihuela music from the Renaissance period. Pisador's music was heavily influenced by the Spanish courtly tradition, as well as by the music of other European countries. His compositions often featured intricate melodies and complex harmonies, and he was known for his use of counterpoint and polyphony. In addition to his work as a composer, Pisador was also a respected music teacher. He taught many students, including his own son, Alonso Pisador, who went on to become a successful musician and composer in his own right. Despite his contributions to the world of music, Pisador's life was not without its challenges. He lived during a time of great political and religious upheaval in Spain, and his music was often censored or banned by the authorities. In addition, he struggled with financial difficulties throughout his life, and was forced to sell his music manuscripts in order to make ends meet. Despite these challenges, Pisador continued to compose and perform music throughout his life. He died in Salamanca in 1557, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music that continues to be celebrated and performed to this day.More....
