Ricardo Castillo was a Mexican composer and pianist who was born on January 1, 1867, in Mexico City. He was the son of a wealthy family and received his early education at home. His father was a music lover and encouraged his son's interest in music. Castillo began studying piano at a young age and showed great talent. In 1884, Castillo traveled to Europe to continue his musical education. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with the renowned pianist and composer, Charles-Valentin Alkan. Castillo returned to Mexico in 1890 and began a successful career as a pianist and composer. He performed in concerts throughout Mexico and was highly regarded for his virtuosity and musicality. He also became a respected music teacher and taught at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City. Castillo's compositions were influenced by the Romantic era of classical music.
