Christiane Legrand was a French singer and composer who was born on August 21, 1930, in Aix-en-Provence, France. She was the daughter of Raymond Legrand, a famous French composer and conductor, and the sister of Michel Legrand, a renowned composer, arranger, and pianist. Christiane grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Christiane began her musical career as a singer in the 1950s, performing in various nightclubs and cabarets in Paris. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented vocalist and was soon discovered by the famous French composer and conductor, Henri Salvador. Salvador invited Christiane to join his orchestra, and she began touring with him throughout France and Europe. In the 1960s, Christiane began working as a session singer, recording backing vocals for various French artists and composers. She also began composing her own music, and in 1966, she released her first album, "Chante et danse pour les enfants." The album was a collection of children's songs that Christiane had written and composed herself, and it was a commercial success in France. In the 1970s, Christiane began working with her brother Michel Legrand, who had become a successful composer and arranger in Hollywood. Together, they collaborated on several film scores, including "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "Summer of '42." Christiane also recorded several albums with Michel, including "Michel Legrand and Christiane Legrand" and "Les Moulins de mon coeur." Throughout her career, Christiane was known for her beautiful voice and her ability to sing in multiple languages, including French, English, and Spanish. She was also a talented composer and arranger, and her music was often featured in films and television shows. In addition to her work as a musician, Christiane was also a dedicated teacher. She taught music at the American School of Paris for many years and was known for her patience and kindness with her students. Christiane received several awards and honors throughout her career, including the Grand Prix du Disque for her album "Chante et danse pour les enfants" and the César Award for Best Original Song for "Les Moulins de mon coeur." She was also inducted into the French Order of Arts and Letters in 2009. Christiane Legrand passed away on November 1, 2011, at the age of 81.
