Fettig grew up in a family of musicians, and his parents were both music teachers. His father was a band director, and his mother was a piano teacher. Fettig's parents played a significant role in his early musical education, and he started playing the trumpet at the age of nine. Fettig attended the University of Maine, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. He later went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. During his time at the University of Massachusetts, Fettig studied under the tutelage of renowned trumpet player and teacher, Charles Schlueter. After completing his studies, Fettig began his career as a professional musician. He joined the United States Marine Band in 1997 as a trumpet player. The United States Marine Band is one of the oldest and most prestigious military bands in the world, and Fettig's appointment was a significant achievement. He quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed as the band's conductor in 2014. As the conductor of the United States Marine Band, Fettig has led the band in numerous performances across the United States and around the world. He has conducted the band at the White House, the Kennedy Center, and the Lincoln Center, among other prestigious venues. Fettig has also conducted the band on several international tours, including performances in Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Fettig's performances with the United States Marine Band have earned him numerous accolades and awards. Fettig is also a respected music educator and has taught at several universities and music schools.
