The members of the ensemble are violinists Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen and Frederik Øland, violist Asbjørn Nørgaard, and cellist Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin. The ensemble's founding members, Sørensen and Øland, met while studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. They quickly discovered a shared love for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. They were soon joined by Nørgaard and Sjölin, and Quatuor Danois was born. Since its founding, Quatuor Danois has become one of the most highly regarded chamber music ensembles in the world. The group has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the globe, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the 2007 BBC Proms in London. The group received critical acclaim for their performance of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131. The Guardian called the performance "a revelation" and praised the ensemble's "impeccable ensemble playing and deep musical understanding." Quatuor Danois has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout their career. In 2002, the group won the Danish Radio P2 Chamber Music Competition, which helped to launch their international career. They have also been awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, which recognizes outstanding young musicians. In addition to their performances, Quatuor Danois is also committed to education and outreach. The group has worked with young musicians in Denmark and around the world, leading masterclasses and workshops to inspire the next generation of chamber musicians. Overall, Quatuor Danois is a highly respected and accomplished ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music.
