The name Tromba Mundi is derived from the Italian words for "trumpet" and "world," reflecting the group's mission to bring trumpet music to audiences around the globe. The main members of Tromba Mundi are the five founding members, although the group has occasionally added other trumpet players for specific performances. All of the members are accomplished trumpet players with extensive experience performing and teaching trumpet music. John Marchiando is a professor of trumpet at the University of New Mexico, Richard Illman is a professor of trumpet at the University of Georgia, Jon Burgess is a professor of trumpet at the University of Tennessee, Mark Ponzo is a professor of trumpet at Northern Illinois University, and Kevin Gebo is a professor of trumpet at the University of Akron. Tromba Mundi has performed at numerous venues and festivals around the world, including the International Trumpet Guild Conference, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and the National Trumpet Competition. The group has also released several albums, including "Tromba Mundi: Five," "Tromba Mundi: Six," and "Tromba Mundi: Seven." These albums feature a variety of trumpet music, including original compositions and arrangements of classical pieces. One of Tromba Mundi's most notable performances was at the 2011 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The group performed a program of original compositions and arrangements, including a piece by John Stevens titled "Fanfare for Tromba Mundi." The performance was well-received by the audience and helped to establish Tromba Mundi as a leading trumpet ensemble.
