Jennifer Enns Modolo is a Canadian mezzo-soprano who has established herself as a prominent figure in the classical music world. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on August 28, 1979, Jennifer grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. Her parents were both music teachers, and her father was a professional trumpet player. Jennifer's love for music was nurtured from an early age, and she began taking voice lessons when she was just 12 years old. Jennifer's talent was evident from the start, and she quickly began to make a name for herself in the local music scene. She won numerous awards and competitions, including the Winnipeg Music Festival's Rose Bowl, the Manitoba Provincial Music Festival's Aikins Memorial Trophy, and the National Music Festival's Healey Willan Grand Prize. Jennifer's success in these competitions led to her being offered a full scholarship to study music at the University of Manitoba. At the University of Manitoba, Jennifer studied under the tutelage of renowned voice teacher Tracy Dahl. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2002 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the University of Toronto. While at the University of Toronto, Jennifer studied with Canadian mezzo-soprano Jean MacPhail and won the prestigious Norcop Prize in Song Interpretation. After completing her studies, Jennifer began to establish herself as a professional opera singer. She made her debut with the Canadian Opera Company in 2005, singing the role of the Second Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute. Since then, Jennifer has performed with numerous opera companies and orchestras throughout Canada and the United States, including the Vancouver Opera, the Edmonton Opera, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. One of Jennifer's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in Bizet's Carmen with the Manitoba Opera in 2010. Her performance was widely praised by critics, who noted her "rich, dark mezzo-soprano" and "sultry, seductive stage presence." Jennifer has also received critical acclaim for her performances in Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, and Verdi's Requiem. In addition to her work as an opera singer, Jennifer is also a sought-after concert performer and recitalist. She has performed in numerous concerts and recitals throughout Canada and the United States, including appearances at the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, the Elora Festival, and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. Jennifer has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2007, she was named the winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, which recognizes outstanding performances of contemporary Canadian music. She was also a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2008 and was a recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts' Career Development Grant in 2010. Jennifer is also a dedicated music educator and has taught voice at the University of Manitoba and the University of Toronto. She is currently a faculty member at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In addition to her work as a performer and educator, Jennifer is also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness.
