Fábio Brum is a Brazilian classical pianist and composer who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative compositions. Born on August 22, 1985, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Brum showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and began performing in public at the age of eight. Brum's early musical education was focused on classical repertoire, and he studied with some of Brazil's most renowned piano teachers, including Ney Fialkow and Maria da Graça Corrêa. He also participated in numerous piano competitions, winning several awards and distinctions, including first prize in the 2001 Young Soloists Competition of the Rio Grande do Sul Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, Brum was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany, where he studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. During his time in Germany, Brum also had the opportunity to perform in some of Europe's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. After completing his studies in Germany, Brum returned to Brazil and began to establish himself as one of the country's leading classical pianists. He has performed with many of Brazil's top orchestras, including the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, the Rio de Janeiro Symphony Orchestra, and the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, collaborating with some of Brazil's most distinguished musicians, including cellist Antonio Meneses and violinist Claudio Cruz. In addition to his work as a performer, Brum is also an accomplished composer, with a growing body of original works that have been performed by orchestras and ensembles around the world. His compositions are characterized by a unique blend of classical and Brazilian musical influences, and he has been praised for his ability to create works that are both technically demanding and emotionally engaging. Brum's performances and compositions have earned him numerous awards and distinctions, including the 2010 Carlos Gomes Award for Best Instrumental Soloist, the 2012 Bravo! Award for Best Classical Album, and the 2015 Gramophone Award for Best Chamber Music Recording. He has also been recognized for his contributions to music education, and has served as a guest lecturer and masterclass teacher at universities and conservatories around the world.
