Geneviève Gilardeau is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a violinist. Born in Montreal, Canada, on May 15, 1985, Geneviève grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, a pianist, and her mother, a cellist, were both members of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Geneviève's parents recognized her talent for music at a young age and encouraged her to pursue it. Geneviève began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. She received her first violin lessons from her mother and later studied with renowned violinists such as Yehudi Menuhin, Pinchas Zukerman, and Itzhak Perlman. Geneviève's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and she quickly became a rising star in the classical music world. In 2003, Geneviève won the prestigious Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition, which launched her career as a professional musician. She went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in violin performance. During her time at Juilliard, Geneviève had the opportunity to work with some of the most renowned violinists in the world, including Isaac Stern and Dorothy DeLay. Geneviève's career as a soloist began to take off in the early 2010s. She made her debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 2011, performing the Brahms Violin Concerto to critical acclaim. The following year, she made her debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Geneviève's performances were praised for their technical precision, emotional depth, and musicality. In 2013, Geneviève was awarded the prestigious Sylva Gelber Foundation Award, which recognizes outstanding young Canadian musicians. The award provided her with a cash prize of $25,000 and helped to further establish her as one of Canada's most promising young musicians. Geneviève's career continued to flourish in the years that followed. She performed with orchestras across Canada and the United States, including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She also made her debut in Europe, performing with the Orchestre National de France in Paris. In addition to her work as a soloist, Geneviève is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri String Quartet. She is also a founding member of the Trio Saint-Laurent, a piano trio that has received critical acclaim for its performances of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich. Geneviève's dedication to music extends beyond her performances as a soloist and chamber musician. She is also a passionate educator and has taught at the University of Ottawa and the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. She is committed to sharing her love of music with the next generation of musicians and helping to inspire a new generation of classical music lovers. In recognition of her contributions to the world of classical music, Geneviève has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award, she has been awarded the Virginia Parker Prize, the Prix d'Europe, and the Canada Council for the Arts' Musical Instrument Bank loan. She has also been named one of Canada's Top 30 Classical Musicians Under 30 by CBC Music.
