Johan Löfving is a Swedish classical guitarist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical guitar repertoire. Born in 1989 in the town of Västerås, Sweden, Löfving began playing the guitar at the age of eight and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Löfving's early musical education was focused on classical guitar, and he studied with several renowned guitarists in Sweden, including Mats Bergström and Göran Söllscher. He also attended masterclasses with some of the world's leading guitarists, including Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, and Pepe Romero. In 2008, Löfving was accepted into the prestigious Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with renowned guitarist Gary Ryan. During his time at the Royal College of Music, Löfving won several awards and competitions, including the Royal College of Music Guitar Competition and the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award. After completing his studies at the Royal College of Music, Löfving began to establish himself as a soloist and chamber musician, performing throughout Europe and Asia. He has appeared at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Löfving's repertoire is diverse and includes works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, and has recorded several albums of Bach's music for the guitar. In addition to his solo career, Löfving is also an active chamber musician, and has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including cellist Steven Isserlis and violinist Rachel Podger. He is a member of the Swedish Guitar Duo, with whom he has recorded several albums of guitar duets. Löfving's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance, musical sensitivity, and innovative interpretations. He has been described as a "guitarist of the highest order" by Classical Guitar Magazine, and his recordings have received critical acclaim from publications such as Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine. In addition to his performing career, Löfving is also a dedicated teacher, and has taught at several institutions, including the Royal College of Music in London and the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He is currently a professor of guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
