Hoffmann and tells the story of a young boy who is visited by the Sandman, a mythical creature who steals children’s eyes. Maerkl’s score for the opera is haunting and atmospheric, with electronic sounds and vocal effects adding to the eerie atmosphere. Another notable work by Maerkl is her “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra,” which was premiered in 2010 by the Munich Symphony Orchestra.
