He was the son of Johann Philipp Schnabel, a musician and composer, and Maria Theresia Schnabel. His father was his first music teacher, and he began his musical education at a young age. Schnabel's talent for music was evident from an early age, and he quickly became proficient in playing the piano, violin, and organ. He also showed a keen interest in composition, and by the age of 14, he had already written several pieces of music. In 1783, Schnabel moved to Vienna to study music under the renowned composer Johann Georg Albrechtsberger. He also studied with other notable composers of the time, including Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. During his time in Vienna, Schnabel became known for his skill as a pianist and composer, and he was often invited to perform at concerts and social events. In 1790, Schnabel returned to his hometown of Würzburg, where he was appointed as the court organist and music director for the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg. He held this position for over 30 years, during which time he composed a large number of works, including symphonies, chamber music, and operas. One of Schnabel's most notable works is his Symphony No. 2 in D major, which was composed in 1792. This symphony is characterized by its lively and energetic melodies, and it is considered to be one of Schnabel's most accomplished works. Another notable work is his opera "Die Dorfdeputierten," which was first performed in 1803. This opera is a comic opera that tells the story of a group of village officials who try to solve a dispute between two farmers. Schnabel's music was well-received during his lifetime, and he was highly regarded as a composer and musician. He was known for his ability to blend classical and romantic styles, and his music was often praised for its emotional depth and complexity. In addition to his work as a composer, Schnabel was also a respected music teacher. He taught music at the University of Würzburg and was known for his dedication to his students. Many of his students went on to become successful musicians and composers in their own right. Schnabel continued to compose music throughout his life, and he remained active in the music community until his death on December 15, 1831. His legacy as a composer and musician continues to be celebrated today, and his music remains an important part of the classical music canon.More....
