Marie-Laurence Primeau is a Canadian classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a talented cellist and chamber musician. Born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1985, Primeau began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She went on to study at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance. After completing her studies, Primeau began performing professionally as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation for her technical skill and expressive playing, and was soon invited to perform at major music festivals and concert halls around the world. One of Primeau's early highlights was her performance at the 2008 Montreal International Music Competition, where she won the top prize in the cello category. This prestigious competition is known for launching the careers of many successful classical musicians, and Primeau's win helped to establish her as a rising star in the classical music world. Since then, Primeau has gone on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras and chamber ensembles. She has appeared as a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Métropolitain, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra, among others. She has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Angela Hewitt and violinist James Ehnes. In addition to her work as a soloist, Primeau is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with a number of ensembles, including the Trio Hochelaga and the Quatuor Arthur-LeBlanc. She is also a founding member of the Trio Saint-Laurent, which has been praised for its "exquisite playing" and "perfect ensemble balance." Primeau's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. She has a particular affinity for the music of J.S. Bach, and has performed his cello suites in concert halls around the world. She is also a champion of contemporary music, and has premiered works by Canadian composers such as Ana Sokolović and Denis Gougeon. In addition to her performing career, Primeau is also a dedicated teacher.
