Born on February 19, 1953, in New York City, Greene showed an early aptitude for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Greene's musical education began at the Juilliard School, where he studied with renowned pianist Martin Canin. He later continued his studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois, where he studied with pianist Ian Hobson. Throughout his career, Greene has been recognized for his exceptional talent and has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1975, he won the prestigious William Kapell International Piano Competition, which launched his career as a soloist. He has also won the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the UNISA International Piano Competition, and the American Pianists Association Fellowship Award. Greene has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed at major music festivals, such as the Ravinia Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Festival. One of Greene's most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1986, where he performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. The New York Times praised his performance, stating that "Mr. Greene's playing was marked by a combination of technical brilliance and interpretive insight that made his performance a memorable one." In addition to his career as a soloist, Greene is also a dedicated teacher and has served on the faculty of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance since 1990.
