Adam Schoenberg is a contemporary classical music composer who was born on November 15, 1980, in Northampton, Massachusetts. The piece is a four-movement work for string quartet that evokes the colors and moods of Rothko's paintings. It was premiered by the Calder Quartet in 2006 and has since been performed by numerous ensembles around the world. Schoenberg's most famous work to date is "Picture Studies," a cycle of ten pieces for piano inspired by the photographs of Cindy Sherman. The work was commissioned by the Van Cliburn Foundation and premiered by pianist Andrew Tyson in 2017. Each piece in the cycle is named after a photograph by Sherman and captures the mood and atmosphere of the image. In addition to his work as a composer, Schoenberg is also an active educator. He has taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. He is currently on the faculty of the Colburn School in Los Angeles.
