Edward Gazouleas is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born in 1963 in New York City, where he grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, which exposed him to music at an early age. Edward Gazouleas started playing the viola at the age of ten, and he quickly developed a passion for the instrument. Edward Gazouleas attended the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of William Lincer. He later went on to study with Karen Tuttle at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. During his time at Juilliard, Edward Gazouleas won several awards, including the William Randolph Hearst Foundation Award and the Juilliard Viola Concerto Competition. After completing his studies, Edward Gazouleas joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as the principal violist. He held this position for four years before joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra as the assistant principal violist. During his time with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Edward Gazouleas performed in several major concerts, including the orchestra's performance at the Tanglewood Music Festival. In 1991, Edward Gazouleas joined the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music, where he taught viola and chamber music. He also served as the chair of the string department from 2001 to 2006. During his time at the New England Conservatory of Music, Edward Gazouleas mentored several young musicians who have gone on to become successful in their own right. Edward Gazouleas has also performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the New England Conservatory Orchestra. He has also performed in several chamber music concerts, including performances with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and the Borromeo String Quartet. In addition to his performing career, Edward Gazouleas is also a respected music educator. He has taught at several music schools, including the Peabody Conservatory of Music, the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. He has also given masterclasses and workshops in several countries, including Japan, Korea, and Australia. Edward Gazouleas has received several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1990, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians. He was also awarded the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Erich Leinsdorf Award in 1993, which recognizes outstanding musicians in the orchestra.
