Qian Zhou is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born in Shanghai, China, in 1967, Qian Zhou began playing the violin at the age of four. Her parents were both musicians, and they recognized her talent early on. They encouraged her to pursue music, and she began taking lessons with Professor Lin Yaoji at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Qian Zhou's talent was evident from a young age, and she quickly became a rising star in the music world. She won her first competition at the age of six and went on to win numerous awards throughout her career. In 1984, she won first prize at the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland, which launched her international career. Qian Zhou's talent and dedication to music led her to study with some of the most renowned violinists in the world. She studied with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York and with Zakhar Bron in Germany. She also worked with Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, and Itzhak Perlman, among others. Qian Zhou's career has been marked by numerous highlights and achievements. In 1987, she made her debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. She has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her performances with orchestras, Qian Zhou is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Tokyo String Quartet and the Emerson String Quartet. She has also collaborated with pianists such as Martha Argerich and Lang Lang. Qian Zhou's recordings have received critical acclaim and have won numerous awards. Her recording of the complete works for violin and piano by Brahms, with pianist Edmund Battersby, was awarded the Diapason d'Or in France. Her recording of the complete works for violin and piano by Schumann, also with Battersby, was awarded the German Record Critics' Award. In addition to her performing and recording career, Qian Zhou is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. Many of her students have gone on to successful careers in music. Qian Zhou's dedication to music has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1998, she was awarded the Medal of Arts by the Singapore government. In 2003, she was awarded the Outstanding Young Persons of the World Award by the Junior Chamber International. In 2010, she was awarded the Cultural Medallion by the Singapore government, the highest cultural award in the country. Qian Zhou's career has been marked by a dedication to excellence and a passion for music. She has inspired countless musicians and audiences around the world with her performances and recordings. Her legacy as a musician and teacher will continue to inspire future generations of musicians.
